How does multichannel recording work?
Multichannel ("what u hear") captures audio directly from the audio
card's 6.1-channel analog speaker outputs and for the conditions of a Wave
Multichannel recording to be fulfilled you need to ensure CMSS1/2 has been
enabled in Eax Console and 5.1 speakers selected.
For example you have a computer with an Audigy2 and Creative Inspire 6.1
6700 speaker system:
In order for a Multichannel recording to be possible you require CMSS1/2 in
Eax Console to be enabled.
Why?
If you have CMSS1/2 disabled and play an audio file then you will only experience
Stereo (front right & front left speaker).
If you record this audio file using Multichannel and playback this recorded
file through your Inspire 6.1 system you will only experience Stereo (front
right & front left speaker).
If you enable the option CMSS1/2 in Eax Console and play an audio file you
will experience music through all six speakers.
If you record this audio file using Multichannel; then disable CMSS1/2 and
playback this recorded file you will experience Multichannel (Front left,
front center, front right, rear left, rear center, rear right).

What are the main advantages of having
a Multichannel recording?
Once you successfully record an audio file in Wave Multichannel then, whether
you have CMSS1/2 enabled or not, you will experience music through all 6 speakers.
Multichannel will allow you to capture/mirror audio played: for example if you
were to play an AC3 file, and through the rear right speaker you hear a single
drum beat play louder, recording this AC3 using Multichannel recording will
enable you to hear the drum beat play at the same level through the rear right
speaker.
Whereas normally if you were to record this AC3 file with wave stereo 24bit/96khz
the same drum beat will be spread across all satellite speakers; thus losing
the realism.
Think of Multichannel as taking a picture of audio been played, what you hear
is what will be recorded.
